Why Do We Need A New Testament?
November 1, 2009 0 CommentsWhy Do We Need A New Testament?
Have you ever wondered why there is a New and an Old
Testament? Was there something wrong with the Old Testament? The
answers may seem complex and difficult to understand but I will
share my views; views that are based on extensive research and
considerable revelation. Please remember one important thing about
the Bible. The book is almost as mysterious as God, the LORD and
the Almighty.
The Old Testament
The Old Testament books are diverse and cover many subjects
including extensive books on laws and numbers. The Jews had laws
for everything imaginable and penalties were quite severe. It was
according to these laws that the Jewish religious leaders DEMANDED
that Christ be crucified. According to the Gospels the government
tried multiple times to release Jesus Christ but the Jewish
religious leaders would not accept anything less than his death.
Why? Was it to fulfill the prophecies? It's
possible. Was it because there are many people that know about
religion but don't know God?Probably!
Old Testament Curses
In addition to the hundreds of laws in the Old Testament it is
loaded with all types of curses. The Bible even says that the
Priest will write all of these curses in a book and He shall wipe
them out with bitter water... What book was it? If you can
think of another let me know.
There are many beautiful verses in the Old Testament that do
represent God's heart. There are also some malicious and abominable
verses as well. Did God want those in the Bible? Based on
the New Testament I don't think so. Nor do I believe that
God had anything to do with the malicious and deceptive garbage
being put in there to begin with... The book was written by men and
translated by other men over several different languages.
The New Testament
The fact that the New Testament is about a new
covenant, the good news, Glad
Tidings, and the Gospel of
God would suggest possible problems with the Old. The
new covenant is based on grace and faith. The term "Good News" or
"Glad Tidings" suggests that the Old Testament did not represent
that viewpoint. The term "Gospel" which is the foundation
of the New Testament means "God's Spell"
or "Good Spell". Was it essential that
there be a "God Spell" to offset the all curses
that were written into the Old Testament?
If this post causes you to think, that is good. I do not believe that God gets upset about our questioning doctrines and meanings of written words. In the Gospels one of Jesus' statements is that God seeks those that will worship him in spirit and in truth. If we ask God to enlighten our minds as to the meanings and purposes of written words I believe that he will gladly do just that.God loves love, God loves the truth and God loves his family... For those that take it upon themselves to speak for God they better be armed with something more than a line in a book, any book!
God reconciles people every day. People from every background imaginable. Many of these ones that God reconciles the religious people cast out long ago. These ones that that God personally came to get were treatly very badly by the world and by some religions. The ones that no one wanted were not only loved by God, they are members of his own family.
In the Gospels it was said "judge not" lest ye be judged. There are two great reasons not to judge. The first reason is that unless you are perfect you have no right to judge (and if you were perfect you wouldn't feel compelled to). The second and most important is this.
Until you have lived every thought, emotion, spiritual attack and circumstance that someone else has you don't know anything about that person. Had you come into this world and had to deal with the very same thoughts, feelings and circumstances you may not have done half as well! There is the truth!
God is good. God knows what people have lived and is capable of judging fairly. How does he know? Because he lived it. He went from being the Most High to being the most low; literally living in a human body in a spiritual hell. What did He do there? He reconciled people to Himself. There is only ONE that holds sway over all things in heaven, in hell and on the earth and that One is God. The song "Impossible Dream" begins to relate God's love and courage. One of the lines in the song is "to be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause".
God was, God did and He is marching out with all the prisoners, now!
