What I Learned From Bible Software
December 3, 2011 0 CommentsFor many years I read the Bible daily. Most mornings I would start by reading a Psalm. After years and years of Bible study I found myself left with too many questions. Through a series of events and encounters I was motivated to create a scroll by following reference verses. I made a few different scrolls, most of them only lasted for ten to twenty verses before there were no more references to follow. The longest one was from a verse in 1 Corinthians 13, until the ONE!
I was inspired (told) to make a scroll from a verse in the Book of Genesis. When I looked at it I thought to myself I'll be done with this in 5 minutes... there was only one reference to start with! Four and one half months later - more than 27,000 more references and 400,000 verses later it was done! It covered verses in every book from A to Z. This experience was both exhausting, and frightening. I realized that the Bible contained much more than words and teachings... it is scientific!
Needless to say, I was not anxious to start any more scrolls. I told God... that's it! Unless there is some type of software that will do this I'll be darned if I'm doing this again. After researching various Bible software I bought a Logos software program with the lexicons etc. included.
I soon realized that the software couldn't do what I had done manually. In the process of trying to make a scroll with the software I discovered a whole new world, the real words and meanings - and the word numbers from the Strong's lexicon. This was life changing. There were many Bible verses that were close to my heart, there were others that I disagreed with and frankly didn't believe God said. I started to look up the verses and reconstruct the actual words. Wow... A real eye-opener.
This post could go on and on. I wish I could tell you some of what's really buried in the words of the Bible. Imagine someone writing your name (first and last), physical characteristics, mother's name, addresses, and much more in a book four thousand years before you were born knowing that someday you would find it! Well, that's what happened to me.
A few things that I learned from God and Bible software
- The Bible is highly scientific.
- Never jump to a conclusion as to the meaning of a verse without further study of the original word(s) that were used.
- Realize that GOD really knows the end from the beginning.
- If you think that you already have the answers - God can't reveal anything to you.
- God is even smarter than I thought.
Keep an open mind. In the Gospels Jesus said that He would send the Spirit who would lead you into all truth. That is, if you are willing to accept it.
God Bless You!
