The Letter Killeth But The Spirit Giveth Life - 2 COR 3,6

Here is a great New Testament scripture for a Bible study. What is the author saying in this Bible verse. It would be difficult to come to any conclusion other than the one that is apparent. The letter of the law, and of the Bible killeth but the Spirit of God brings life... Here is the whole verse.

From the King James Bible - New Testament 2 CORINTHIANS 3,6

Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

If we are ministers of the New Testament, not of the letter, but of the Spirit why is there so much emphasis placed on the laws written in the Bible. Many Bible teachers and whole churches are teaching that this is the authority of God. Many are teaching Old Testament laws which require oaths and the failure to comply with each and every part carry curses. The Bible is a very complex set of documents that were written by people and translated by other people. Don't be offended by this. It is the truth, and the truth will set you free!

Do you want to follow the laws the religious leaders used to condemn Christ to be crucified? Why is the foundation of the New Testament called the Gospels? Gospel means "God's spell" or "good spell", why? Because of all the curses that were sown into the book of the law. Our job is to set people free to love God and each other not to enslave people to mindless doctrines written by men.

The Bible had a real purpose that God used to His advantage even though some of what is in there was intended for His destruction. Much like the story of Joseph where his brothers wanted to kill him (or worse) and yet he ended up saving not only his family but all of Israel. Who gave Joseph this opportunity to be of such great service? Pharaoh!

The Bible is mysterious and it says that time and again. There are over 1000 Bible translations. If you are following the letter which one will you follow? God's grace and God's Spirit are what everyone needs. In spite of all the errant teachings and troubles that have come upon many as a result of misguided faith God is above all.

What others intended for bad, God used for good! God is good and that is all He wants you to be. To do good, love Him and help others. You don't have to convince anyone of any specific doctrine because the Spirit of God is more powerful than the greatest speech. In spite of all our mistakes God still saves and He has the absolute authority to save whoever He chooses. Make the world a better place, do what is right and you will find the Spirit with you bringing light into a dark world...

For the record. The one from the Old Testament that purportedly gave Moses the laws said in Jeremiah 8,8 the following;

How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.

in vain made...: or, the false pen of the scribes worketh for falsehood

Now, the tense for this verse which can be past, present, or future is all of them... Go figure. The name LORD appears in the Old Testament 6519 times and He is saying that He didn't say it! 6510 times as LORD, 4 times as GOD, JEHOVAH 4 times, and "variant" once.

If we can be as adamant about our faith in God as we are in our faith in words we can change the world and bring real life to ourselves and others through the Spirit of God.
