In Spirit and in Truth - Book of John 4,24
January 13, 2010 0 CommentsThe Bible verse we are looking at
is from the New Testament Gospel of John in the King James Version.
It says " God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must
worship him in spirit and in truth." What did Jesus mean
by this statement? As with many of his statements this verse can be
interpreted many different ways.
Personally, to worship in spirit would seem to mean in our inner
being, in our heart or in our spiritual self. So often God is used
when it is convenient or to show others that we are religious, good
or faithful people. I don't think God cares that much about the
outward appearance as He does about our heart.
To me the important word(s) are in truth. If we
think that we know the truth then God cannot reveal it to us by His
Spirit. I believe that real revelation comes from God's
Spirit to our spirit. This happens when we seek to know
Him or worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.
Another important things that this verse implies is that God is not
so much concerned about which church we belong to or some outward
profession of belief as He is our spiritual
condition. I believe that God in anxious to reveal many
things at this time but He needs people who are open to hearing
what He has to say. Those are the ones who worship in spirit and in
truth.
The truth is very powerful! Even Jesus said that you will
know the truth and the truth will make you free! Maybe
that's why God seeks those who seek Him in spirit and in
truth.
