What Does Bible Study Software Do?

New Bible study software can dramatically alter the way you interpret different scripture meanings. Let's face it, the Bible is a mystery. It is a mystery at the beginning and a mystery at the end. For those that really want to discover the true meanings of a verse the software can be a great tool.

What will you find using software that you can't find just reading the book? A lot of things! Here are just a few.
 

• The actual word or words that appear in a Bible verse along with the Strong's Lexicon word number(s).
• How many times that word appears in scriptures, the language of origin (if known), the word numbers, and how the word was translated and how many times.
• The word roots for each word. Many times the root can reveal other words in direct association with the word. These other words can be peoples names and purposes.
• All of the real words in a verse of scripture. One verse that I looked up because I thought it was terrible and wanted to know if it really did say that. It didn't.. A 14 word verse really contained 2 words and it was the same word repeated twice. The word had nothing to do with the 14 word prophecy.
• Bible commentaries and dictionaries to research the words in greater depth.

Is all this really necessary? Yes, and no. If you are going to cite scripture verses as being the word of God then it might be beneficial to know what the verse really says, and doesn't say. At the very least you will discover that the Bible is far more complex than you originally thought. If you are a teacher of the Bible you will be more cautious about jumping to conclusions about what a verse says or means. Is that bad? NO! Is it bad to seek and teach the truth? We both know the answer to that.

At a Catholic church a few years back they read a scripture verse from the Old Testament that is quite perplexing. After mass I walked up to the priest and asked him what he thought the verse meant. He told me "I'll be darned if I know". Honesty is refreshing!
